BOSTON — The Red Sox were hopeful they’d be able to play their Saturday matinee against the Cardinals as scheduled. The rain ruined their chances.
Saturday’s game has been postponed after a delay of two hours and eight minutes. The teams will finish off their three-game series with a day-night (separate admission) doubleheader Sunday at Fenway Park.
Game 1 (the makeup) on Sunday is at 1:35 p.m. and Game 2 is at 7:10, as scheduled. Tickets for the postponed game will be good for admission to the rescheduled contest. Tomorrow’s regularly scheduled game remains at 7:10 p.m.
Lefty Sean Newcomb will start Game 1 for the Red Sox, according to the team. Boston listed the Game 2 starter as “TBD.” It’s unclear what the plans are for Saturday starter Richard Fitts. The Red Sox can also call up an extra player from Triple-A for the doubleheader.
The Red Sox will encounter a busy part of the schedule in the next couple weeks. Sunday’s doubleheader means they will have 13 games in 12 days until and off day on April 17. After the Cardinals leave town, the Sox will welcome the Blue Jays in for four games. Then comes a six-game road trip to Chicago (White Sox) and Tampa.
