For the second straight week, the Bruins’ Saturday opponent made a big trade on Friday night.
Last week the Colorado Avalanche traded Mikko Rantanen for Carolina’s Jack Drury and Martin Necas in a three-team deal that also moved draft picks and salary before facing Boston at TD Garden.
This week it’s the Rangers making big moves. New York picked up J.T. Miller and defensemen Erik Brannstrom and Jackson Dorrington from the Canucks for forward Filip Chytil, defenseman Victor Mancini and a protected first-round pick.
Miller, 31, is the big prize in the deal. He’s had a down year amidst reports of a fractured locker room in Vancouver. The Canucks were expected to move either him or Elias Petterson in hopes of breaking up the discontent on that team. Miller has nine goals and 26 assists this season after three straight seasons of at least 30.
Brannstrom projects as a depth piece and could end up in Hartford of the AHL, while Dorrington, 20, is currently playing for Northeastern.
Vancouver was scheduled to face Dallas on Friday night in Texas. With the game starting at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, there’s a good chance Miller could make it in time to play.
