After a stretch of dry and warm weather, rain will return to Massachusetts on Wednesday — and to finish out the week.
The morning began rain-free with some clouds, with the chance for some patchy fog in the Boston area and southeast Massachusetts, according to the National Weather Service.
Temperatures started off in the mid-40s to mid-50s across the state, with the chillier temps concentrated to cloudier areas of Western Massachusetts.
Though temperatures could reach up to the mid-70s in Central and Eastern Massachusetts and the 60s for western parts, weather conditions are expected to “gradually deteriorate” as rain moves into Massachusetts during the day, forecasters warned.
Light rain showers are expected to develop in the late morning and early afternoon in Western Massachusetts, as the precipitation moves across the state from west to east.
The rain isn’t expected to arrive in Central and Eastern Massachusetts until mid to late afternoon, forecasters said.
This may allow for “a little longer period of sun” and warmer temps in eastern areas, though coastal parts will remain chiller in the lower 60s throughout the day.
The showers may continue overnight across the state and could bring near a quarter-inch in a few areas, with rumbles of thunder at times along the Connecticut border. Temperatures will stay in the upper 50s.
After the build-up with rain, Thursday is expected to be “rather humid by mid-May standards,” forecasters said.
The daytime is expected to be a mix of rain “showers to dodge at times,” and “several hours” of dry weather.
Temperatures will be dependent on cloud breaks, forecasters said, but are projected to be in the range of 60s to 70s.
Forecasters are still eyeing a small risk for thunderstorms to finish out the week on Friday and Saturday.
