Prosecutors charged a Quincy man with first-degree murder over the weekend, alleging that he stabbed his girlfriend to death at an apartment in the city Saturday night.
Guiovani Gerardo Garcia Chagollan, 34, pleaded not guilty to murder in connection with the death of 26-year-old Ahtziri Y. Cardenas-Torreros during his arraignment on Monday, the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office said in a press release. He was arraigned from his hospital bed at Boston Medical Center and ordered held without bail.
The charge was filed in Quincy District Court, along with a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon, according to court records.
Quincy police found Cardenas-Torreros dead inside an apartment at 500 Falls Blvd. after responding to a 911 call around 11 p.m. on Dec. 13, the district attorney’s office said. The caller reported that someone had died in the apartment, and that another person was hurting themselves with a knife.
Responding officers located Garcia Chagollan inside the apartment with what appeared to be stab wounds, the district attorney’s office said. He was taken to Boston Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.
The couple was found inside an apartment that is part of the Alister Quincy apartment complex. It is unclear who called 911 to report the incident Saturday night.
Garcia Chagollan is due back in court on Jan. 14 for a probable cause hearing, the district attorney’s office said. No further information about Cardenas-Torreros’ killing has been released.
