Police are searching for a man who they said dressed up as an Amazon driver to steal packages of iPhones.
The first incident happened on May 30, when a FedEx truck delivered an iPhone and Air Pods to a Bel Air Road home in Hingham. About 10 seconds later, the Hingham Police Department said, two men in a a dark Jeep Patriot with dark colored rims wearing blue Amazon vests pulled up to the house. One man got out of the SUV carrying a box. He then went to the front door and took the two boxes delivered by the FedEx truck and replaced it with the box he was carrying, police said.
The box left on the front porch was empty, police said.
Police described the man as wearing an orange tee shirt, grey pants, Crocs and a blue Amazon delivery vest over his tee shirt. Police also shared a photo of the man.
On July 3, five iPhone were delivered by FedEx to a house on Daley Road. Minutes later they were stolen from the front steps, police said.
“These incidents, one in May and one July, are different from other package theft incidents because they involve iPhone deliveries in which the packages were stolen right away upon being delivered,” police said.
Both incidents remain under investigation.
Police suggested that if you are having a new phone delivered to your home, you should request it as “signature required” or chose to have it delivered directly to the store.
