Police say bank robber threatened to shoot officers, K9 before arrested in Worcester

Police were able to successfully arrest a 35-year-old Worcester bank robber after he threatened to shoot officers and a K9 on Friday, Aug. 18, the Worcester Police Department reported.

Christopher Grannis, of King Street, was charged with unarmed robbery, larceny over $1,200, and an outstanding warrant in connection with the robbery that happened at the Santander Bank at 507 Main St. around 4:20 p.m. on Friday, Worcester police said.

Responding officers learned that Grannis went into the bank, said it was a robbery and demanded money.

Officers were able to find Grannis in a nearby alley after sending a photo of him to the department. The photo showed Grannis wearing a jacket that officers found in the alley across the street from the bank, police said.

A K9 was called to the scene and tracked Grannis to the alley where officers started negotiating with him and asked Grannis to surrender. He refused and threatened to shoot police and the K9, police said.

According to police, Grannis was in a recessed area that was 15 feet below ground. The Worcester Fire Department were called to the scene to help and Grannis was eventually taken into custody, police said.
