Police cite drivers after breaking up 100+ car street race in Mass. city

Newton police broke up a street race on Sunday that featured more than 100 cars, the department said.

Just after midnight on Sunday, several police units went to Newton Centre for a report of more than 100 cars in the area driving erratically, racing and burning tires. Officers were able to stop and cite some of the drivers, but many fled the area, police said in a statement posted to Facebook.

“Although this does not happen often in our area, this driving behavior is dangerous!” police wrote, thanking the neighbors who alerted dispatch.

Police encouraged residents to report suspicious activity by calling dispatch at 617-796-2123.
