Person shot in residential area of Mass. town Wednesday afternoon

A person was shot in a residential area of Norwood Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

Multiple 911 callers reported hearing gunfire near the intersection of Columbine and Woodbine Roads around 5 p.m., Norwood police said in a press release. The callers told dispatchers they’d seen a car fleeing the area after the gunshots had ceased.

Officers responded to the scene, but could not locate a car that might be involved in the shooting, police said. A short time later, another 911 caller reported that there was a shooting victim inside a car at a gas station at the intersection of Dean Street and Route 1 — approximately two miles from where the shooting happened.

Norwood police and firefighters provided first aid to the victim before they were taken by ambulance to a local hospital, police said. It is unclear how badly they were wounded or what condition they are in as of Wednesday evening.

Norwood police are still investigating the shooting. They ask that anyone with information about it call them at 781-440-5100.
