One person was killed in a fire in Braintree Wednesday night, the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services confirmed to MassLive.
The fire at the Braintree Village Apartments on McCusker Drive broke out around 10:30 p.m., WCVB-TV reported. Responding firefighters found one person dead inside and the rest of the residents, roughly two dozen people, made it out safely.
Arriving firefighters found light smoke emerging from the building, but as they made their way toward the area where the fire is believed to have started they found heavy flames, according to Boston 25 News.
A message left with Braintree acting Chief Fred Viola was not immediately answered Friday morning. The state fire marshal’s office also could not be reached to confirm the reports.
