Pedestrian seriously hurt after struck by a car in Mass. town, report says

A 78-year-old person was hospitalized Wednesday after being struck by a car in Wakefield, WCVB-TV reported.

Wakefield police alerted on its Facebook page about a crash in the area of 49 Water St. at 3:13 p.m.

Around that area, the person was seriously hurt after they were struck around 2:30 p.m., and was taken to the hospital, Deputy Chief Craig Calabrese told the news station.

Drivers on Water Street were detoured on Main Street and Vernon Street, police said.

It was unclear if the driver was still in the area, and Calabrese said he did not have information available about the driver.
