Patriots release 2 QBs, Matt Corral experiment ends

The Patriots parted ways with a pair of quarterbacks on Monday afternoon.

Bill Belichick released Matt Corral from the exempt/left squad list and also cut Ian Book from the practice squad. Corral was claimed off waivers on August 31, but landed on the exempt list just over a week into his tenure with the Patriots. The Athletic’s Jeff Howe reported that Corral hadn’t “shown up to Gillette Stadium” for two days when he landed on the list, but Belichick was tight-lipped about whatever happened.

“I don’t have any comment on it,” the coach said. “That’s a personal matter.”

Apparently, it’s a matter that’s been resolved now.

Book’s stay in Foxborough was brief and uneventful. The Notre Dame quarterback was signed to the practice squad last week and released after just five days. With those two departing, Mac Jones, Bailey Zappe, and (sort of) Malik Cunningham are the only quarterbacks remaining.

The Patriots also returned wideout Jalen Reagor and linebacker Calvin Munson to the practice squad after the two were elevated for Sunday night’s loss to the Dolphins. Munson saw five special teams snaps, while Reagor didn’t get on the field.
