Patriots legend recalls how golf date with Tom Brady ended with QB’s Audi in his driveway

Rodney Harrison and Tom Brady were teammates for six seasons on the New England Patriots. They won two Super Bowls during that time and both played a big role during that time. But it was Brady’s off-the-field demeanor that really stood out to Harrison.

Appearing on the latest episode of MassLive’s “Eye On Foxborough” podcast, the Patriots Hall of Famer recalled that when he first signed with the Patriots in free agency, Brady took him out golfing.

“That was one of the nicest things that somebody’s ever done for me. He knew I was an avid golfer and I was just in love with golf,” Harrison said. “He invited me to play Pine Valley, which is like one of the top two or three courses in the United States. Flew me over there to Philadelphia on his private jet — me and him hanging out getting to know each other. Went to dinner that night, had to throw on some Green Jackets. It was absolutely awesome. The next day, we’d golf all day and it was just a way of getting to know Tom.”

Little did Harrison know that the second day of them spending time together was when Brady would show just what kind of person he is.

“He’s driving this Audi, this new little sports car. And it comes out, I think it was an Audi R8 and I was like, ‘Man, that is a cool car.’ He says, Why don’t you just keep it?’ He throws me the keys and tells me to keep it,” Harrison said. “And after two months of driving that car, having in my driveway in my garage, I said, ‘Tom, dude don’t you want your car back? I still have your car.’ (Brady replied) ‘Just give it to me whenever.’ But it’s not about things with Tom. It’s about substance and he loves his teammates. He does anything for his teammates. He bought his offensive lineman cars, all brand new cars after 2003-2004 season. He’s just a special dude man. He is just special.”

This isn’t the first story of Brady just giving a friend something of his. Charles Barkley recently revealed that he told Brady he liked the watch he was wearing, and the seven-time Super Bowl champion handed it to him later that day and told him to keep it.

There will likely be more stories about Brady as he prepares to get inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame on Wednesday. Harrison won’t be able to attend, but there will be hundreds of other former teammates as well as “surprise guests.”
