Devin McCourty is in the free Mac Jones camp. The three-time Super Bowl winner believes a change of scenery is the best-case scenario both for the quarterback, and the Patriots.
During the latest “Eye on Foxborough” podcast, however, McCourty outlined a storyline where Jones would remain in New England, and not be traded away.

The new offensive coordinator, whoever that might be, is a fan of Jones, and believes the quarterback can be resurrected with a better cast around him.
“Maybe the offensive coordinator you bring in loved him coming out (of college),” said McCourty, who is currently working as an NBC analyst. “That’s another element that could come into play. So whoever becomes the next offensive coordinator, if they come in and they’re like, ‘Hey, I know, everyone is projecting us taking … Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels. But listen to me, I’m telling you, let’s take Marvin Harrison Jr.
‘’’ I loved Mac Jones coming out. I can work with him. You give us Marvin Harrison Jr., we can now do something else, whatever they decide to figure out.’ So I think that’s two-fold. You have to find your guy first, your offensive coordinator.’’
Then see where that goes in terms of his vision for the offense.
And yet, with the Patriots already deciding to pass on picking up Jones fifth-year option, it still seems unlikely they’ll keep him around.
“Right now, without having that offensive coordinator, if you’re asking my opinion, I’d move on from Mac, start from scratch,” said McCourty. “I think it would help him to be elsewhere … So I think if the opportunity comes to trade him, I think it will help both sides.”
