Patriots booed leaving the field after rough first half vs. Saints

FOXBOROUGH — After capping a bad first half with a drive that went backward, the fans at Gillette Stadium booed the Patriots as they left the field training the New Orleans Saints, 21-0 on Sunday.

New England came into the game hoping to flush the lingering bad taste from last week’s 38-3 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on the road, but instead produced more of the same.

Mac Jones completed just 8 of 15 throws for 72 yards. Tyrann Mathieu returned Jones’ first quarter interception 27 yards for an easy Saints touchdown. Jones was sacked twice for 21 yards.

The Patriots offense gained more yards on Saints penalties (52) than they did rushing the ball (25). Patriots backs averaged 2.8 yards per carry. Chad Ryland missed his only field goal try and rookie Demario “Pop” Douglas left with head injury. New England will get the ball to start the second half.

Missing Christian Gonzalez and Matthew Judon, the Patriots defense couldn’t contain a Saints offense which has struggled coming in.
