A 21-year-old passenger of a Ford pickup truck fell out of the vehicle while it was still moving, striking the ground, according to police.
In a statement on Facebook, Charlton police said the passenger, a man from Charlton, was taken to the University of Massachusetts Medical Center-University Campus, where he was pronounced dead.
The man fell out of the truck at about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, police said.
Police said the reason the man fell out of the truck remain under investigation. The driver, who was traveling west on Stafford Street in Charlton, stopped, contacted police and remained there as police arrived, officials said.
The Worcester County District Attorney’s office is continuing the investigation, assisted by Charlton police and Massachusetts State Police.
