Last night went from bad to worse for the Carolina Panthers.
Hours after losing their preseason opener to the New England Patriots in Foxborough, the team’s plane ran off the taxiway and into the mud, multiple outlets in Charlotte are reporting.
According to WCNC, a Delta Airlines flight at Charlotte Douglas International Airport carrying Panthers players landed at about 2:35 a.m. In a statement to WCNC, Delta said the plane had a “normal arrival” before going off the taxiway and that no injuries were reported.
“The right main gear of Delta 8860 exited the taxiway at Charlotte Douglas International Airport following a normal arrival,” Delta said in the statement to WCNC. “No injuries were reported by the 188 customers who are deplaning and being bused to the terminal. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.”
According to WBTV in Charlotte, stairs were towed out to the plan on the taxiway, allowing passengers to get off the plane at about 3:45 a.m.
The Panthers’ flight left from T.F. Green Airport in Providence at roughly 12:45 a.m. Friday morning. According to Flight Aware, the aircraft was a Boeing 767-300.
