Outlook 2024: Reaching for the stars at the Springfield Museums (Viewpoint)

As if on cue, the final months of 2023 broke all previous admission records, as visitors came together at the Springfield Museums for vacation week activities, visits to the Grinch’s Grotto, the Dr. Seuss Gingerbread House display and all of the exhibitions on view in our spectacular five museums. The culminating flourish of peak attendance capped an outstanding year of rebound, accomplishment and growth. Never have the museums been more ready to start a new year, or more confident about their ability to build on their successes to reach higher levels of visibility, renown and excellence.

Beautifully sited on more than 9 acres of land in the heart of downtown Springfield, the museums are interwoven with daily life in the business and residential districts that surround the Quadrangle. Open 320 days per year, the museums are not just a seasonal attraction, nor do they present only scheduled events. The museums are a unique year-round tourist destination and cultural attraction that draws visitors from around the world, while serving as an essential community anchor for residents of all ages. From September through June, the museums offer an infinite variety of offerings from workshops and lectures to a wide array of weekend family programs and drop-in spaces that encourage children and their adult caregivers to discover and learn together. During the summer, the museums are open seven days a week and offer daily family programs to accommodate vacationing school children along with the influx of out-of-town visitors. The museums are humming with activity throughout the year, and their effect on the city is enormous.
