On anniversary, editor of The Republican reflects on tomorrow’s challenges

One of my favorite stories about The Republican is that its founder, Samuel Bowles, poled a rented printing press on a flat-bottomed barge up the Connecticut River to reach Springfield, his wife and infant daughter aboard.

Yes, we’re that old as a publication – 200 years today. Bowles’ first weekly edition appeared Sept. 8, 1824.
