Penalty flags, scorecards, pencils and whistles are all standard items expected to be found in a referee’s bag. Vin LoBello, however, also kept a jar of black shoe polish in his referee duffle bag along with the other necessities.
This addition to his officiating routine justly summarizes the type of official and person LoBello was. He took pride in his role as a lacrosse official and always prioritized professionalism from head to toe. Clean and shiny cleats, a pressed jersey and spotless rolled-up socks were his regular attire for every game.
