
A late spring nor’easter is on track to hit Massachusetts on Wednesday night, bringing cold, soaking rain and wind gusts up to 50 mph.
Skies were overcast after sunrise and are expected to remain cloudy throughout the daytime hours on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.
While it’s projected to be a mostly-dry day statewide, some patchy drizzles will be possible and gusty winds may pick up before the afternoon.
Rain and wind gusts of 20 to 30 mph are expected to roll in after sunset Wednesday night.
Heavier rain is likely to arrive by 5 a.m. on Thursday in Western Massachusetts, and between 6 and 7 a.m. in central and eastern parts of the state, according to forecaster Kyle Pederson.
The storm will become widespread across the state throughout the day on Thursday. Rainfall totals are expected to reach up to two inches, though some areas could see up to three inches.
Wind gusts are expected to peak between 40 and 50 mph on Thursday afternoon, with the strongest gusts along the coast.
A gale warning was in effect for the ocean waters around Eastern Massachusetts from 9 a.m. on Wednesday until 7 p.m. on Thursday night.
While tides aren’t expected to be especially high, some coastal flooding might be possible Thursday afternoon and into the evening where waves reach between three and five feet, forecasters said.
The soaking rain should end by Friday morning, though some showers are still possible through the afternoon and into Saturday.
