BOSTON — Saturday’s win over Canada gave Team USA a spot in the NHL 4 Nations Face-Off championship game. The matchup was entertaining from start to finish, had three fights in the first nine seconds and carried fast energy for the full 60 minutes.
It was a game that drew over 4 million television viewers. It’s possible the 4 Nations championship game could be a rematch between Team USA and Team Canada, but the Americans aren’t focused on something that isn’t set in stone.
“No rooting interest,” USA defenseman Adam Fox said Sunday when asked if the team was at all rooting for Canada to beat Finland in regulation on Monday. “We’re focused on Sweden (on Monday). However the cards shake out we’ll be ready and we’ll bring that same intensity we’ve been doing the last two games.”
Sweden still has a chance — though slim — at the final. Their fate could be determined before the 8 p.m. puck drop against USA. Sweden needs Canada-Finland to go to overtime, then would need to beat USA in regulation.
“We don’t want to take our foot off the gas,” Fox said. “… We gotta be ready and keep that energy level.”
