WESTFIELD – The Westfield High School softball team mustered up just three hits through five innings to Leominster’s seven in a state tournament game, but it’s what came after that mattered most.
Pinch-runner Tristan Macznik scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning and junior pitcher Shea Hurley shut down three of Leominster’s top four batters to help No. 4 Westfield sneak past the 14th seeded Blue Devils, 4-3, in a Division 2 softball Round of 16 state tournament game Wednesday at Westfield State University.
