The Longmeadow girls tennis team has found themselves victorious once again, winning the Class A Western Mass. tournament title for the ninth straight year.
The Lancers swept Amherst in the final round to maintain their undefeated 19-0 record.
“It feels great. This is always one of our goals at the beginning of the season, so everybody was really happy… it‘s been a great year,” Longmeadow coach Michael Framarin said.
The Hurricanes were without their first singles player, Katie Gromacki, but still sent out a tough lineup with Emma Learned-Miller stepping up.
However, the Lancers’ domination on the court has been hard to stop all year and it was no different in Tuesday’s competition.
“Amherst trotted out a great lineup,” Framarin said. “The girls played really hard. We were just happy to come away with the win.”
Sarah Tiru, Bailey Downes and Ellen Kennedy swept the singles action for Longmeadow, only allowing a combined five sets to Amherst across the three matches.
In doubles play, Kelci Galati and Anaya Mohani won the first game 6-2, 6-0 against the Hurricanes.
To end the day, Tess Maggi and Maia Oh faced the Amherst duo of Elena Ruiz and Janaki Ewoton who did not go down without a fight. But, Maggi and Oh remained composed and notched the 6-4, 6-4 victory to cement the sweep.
“The girls were pretty evenly matched, so they did a great job in winning the crucial games… I had total faith in them and they got the job done just like everybody else did,” Framarin said.
The Lancers have not lost a game since the 2022-2023 season. They played a perfect season in the 2023-2024 year, going all the way to win the Division II state title.
Looking to generate that same success and continue its season-long win streak, Longmeadow will now turn its full attention to this year’s upcoming state tournament.
“Now we’ve got a new mountain to climb. We feel very confident going into the state tournament, but we know that we can still be better… Just keep trying to chase perfection, keep trying to be better every day, and if we do that, good things will happen,” Framarin said. “I’m just really proud of my team.”
