NFL pushed networks to give free TV time for Taylor Swift promos (report)

If you’ve been wondering if there’s something odd about how much Taylor Swift coverage there is during NFL games, you’re reportedly onto something.

Andrew Marchand of the New York Post reports that the NFL has been pushing TV networks to air promos for Swift’s upcoming movie for free, with ESPN and NBC reportedly giving in to the request.

The promos were for the upcoming concert film, “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,” which is set to debut in theaters on Friday, Oct. 13.

According to the Post, ESPN played promos for the concert film during Sunday NFL Countdown” and “Monday NFL Countdown.” Marchand also said that NBC ran a free promo during its pregame show ahead of the Jets-Chiefs game, which directed attention to Swift’s attendance during the broadcast. The Post reports that CBS and FOX declined to air the promos.

The NFL has not been shy about promoting the pop star’s rumored romance with Chiefs star Travis Kelce. With Swift attending the last two Chiefs games, the NFL has pulled out all the stops to highlight her connection to the game.

It’s been a bit heavy-handed — just ask Kelce himself.

“I think it’s fun when they show who’s at the game,” Kelce said during his “New Heights” podcast. “I think it brings a little bit more to the atmosphere, brings a little bit more to what you’re watching. But at the same time, they’re overdoing it a little bit, for sure, especially my situation. I think they’re just trying to have fun with it.”

The Chiefs’ next game is against the Vikings in Minnesota. If Swift attends the game, the NFL will surely let you know about it.
