WESTFIELD — “Newberry Square” has won the Westfield Redevelopment Authority’s online public poll to name the new plaza currently being built on Elm Street, receiving 513 votes or 61.2% of the 838-vote total.

According to Community Development Coordinator Michaela Grady, the second-place winner, “Gas Light Plaza,” netted 100 votes, 11.9% of the total, and “Elm Street Plaza” got 76 votes, or 9.1%. There were 149 write-in votes, including Whip City Square, Lambson Park, or names honoring local war veterans. Some joke names included Pickleball Memorial Plaza and Tim & D’s, a reference to downtown graffiti.
