One of the last people to see Ana Walshe alive is expected to take the stand Wednesday morning in her husband’s murder trial.
Gem Mutlu, who spent New Year’s Eve with Brian and Ana Walshe at their Cohasset home, is the next witness likely to be called by prosecutors. Mutlu could be seen waiting to testify outside the Dedham courtroom where the trial is taking place on Tuesday afternoon.
Mutlu departed the Walshe home around 1 or 1:30 in the morning on New Year’s Day. Ana Walshe has not been seen alive by anyone other than her husband since then. Ana Walshe worked for Mutlu before taking a job at Tishman Speyer in Washington, D.C.
Wednesday marks the eighth day of testimony in Brian Walshe’s murder trial. He is accused of killing Ana Walshe in their home on the early morning of New Year’s Day, then dismembering her body and disposing of her remains at dumpsters across the state.
Walshe’s defense has said Ana Walshe died a sudden, unexplained death of natural causes and that he panicked after finding her dead. Before the trial started, Walshe pleaded guilty to two charges, admitting that he moved his wife’s body and misled the police investigation into her disappearance.
Judge Diane Freniere told jurors at the end of the day Tuesday that the evidence on Wednesday may end before their usual 4 p.m. dismissal time. The trial is expected to last another week and a half.
