New winter festival to bring several holiday happenings to Boston area

The Boston area is getting a new winter festival with an après ski-themed lounge, ice castle, ice skating and more.

Hood Park in Charlestown will transform into Winter Fest starting Thursday, Dec. 5. The immersive winter experience will span two acres and feature several holiday activities.

“We set out to create an experience that feels like you’re stepping into a storybook, where every corner brings a new moment of magic.” Creative Director Carl Rugato said in a press release.

“It’s a celebration of community, seasonal traditions and the beauty of winter,” Katie Kwiatkowski, director of events and marketing at MNM Restaurant Group, added.

Visitors will get sip on specialty hot chocolate while relaxing in the après ski-themed lounge. They can also browse holiday gifts from several vendors.

Meanwhile the ice castle will be adorned in twinkling lights. Santa will also make appearances on the weekend along with a toy workshop and a life-sized gingerbread house. There will also be live music from local acts playing holiday hits.

Winter Fest will kick off with the lighting of a 32-foot Christmas tree when the winter wonderland opens.

The festival will last until Jan. 25 and is located at 100 Hood Park Dr., Boston. Information about tickets, hours and parking can be found online.
