BALTIMORE —The Red Sox have activated both Triston Casas and Tyler O’Neill off the injured list in the last two days and on Saturday night, plan to debut what manager Alex Cora feels like is a deeper, more productive lineup against left-handed starters that does not include red-hot designated hitter Masataka Yoshida.
Boston’s issues against southpaws have been well-documented as the club is 14-21 against them so far this season. On Saturday, they’ll face rookie Cade Povich, a top prospect who the Orioles called up to start. With O’Neill (hitting third) and Casas (hitting seventh) both active and both catchers (Connor Wong at DH and Danny Jansen behind the plate) playing, Cora feels like the Red Sox are finally in a place where they can do damage against lefties.
