WASHINGTON — The Network Contagion Research Institute (NCRI) in collaboration with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and the Canadian Centre for Child Protection (C3P) is hosting a virtual forum to discuss the escalating issue of financial sextortion.

Scheduled for April 24 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. ET, the event aims to shed light on this growing crime, particularly across social media platforms.

Mark Albert, Principal Public Safety Media Strategies and former CBS News correspondent, has been announced as the moderator for the forum. The agenda includes insights from NCMEC and C3P on financial sextortion, experiences shared by parents of victims, including South Carolina State Representative Brandon Guffey, and a panel of law enforcement officials discussing countermeasures against sextortion.

Agenda highlights include:

  • Overview of financial sextortion from NCMEC and C3P
  • Insight from parents whose children were victims of online sextortion including South Carolina State Representative Brandon Guffey, father of Gavin Guffey; as well as the parents of Jordan Demay and Amanda Todd
  • A law enforcement panel discussing efforts to fight financial sextortion.

Participants are invited to contribute to the conversation by submitting questions in advance to paul_r@ncri.io and can register for the event here. The NCRI encourages stakeholders to engage in this vital discussion to explore effective solutions to combat financial sextortion.
