Negative and single digit temps expected across Mass. Monday night

No matter where you live in Massachusetts, prepare for frigid temperatures Monday night.

The coldest overnight lows are expected further west, while slightly warmer temperatures are predicted for Eastern Massachusetts — especially along the coast, according to the National Weather Service.

In Berkshire County and northern Franklin County, the weather service expects temperatures to dip below zero Monday night — as low as -5 degrees. Hampshire County, the rest of Franklin County, most of Middlesex and Hampden County and the northern parts of Worcester County are predicted to see the second-coldest temperatures, with lows ranging from 0 to 5 degrees.

The rest of Hampden, Worcester and Middlesex counties, as well as most of Essex, Norfolk, Suffolk and Bristol counties, and the western half of Plymouth County, are expected to experience temperatures between 5 and 10 degrees, the weather service said. The rest of Essex, Norfolk, Suffolk, Bristol and Plymouth counties, as well as all of Dukes County and the western half of Barnstable County, can expect overnight lows between 10 and 15 degrees.

Highs across most of Massachusetts are predicted to reach between 25 and 30 degrees on Tuesday as clouds increase throughout the day, according to the weather service. Snow is expected statewide Tuesday night as temperatures dip into the mid 20s.

Most of Massachusetts is predicted to get half an inch of snow accumulation at most, with the precipitation turning to rain mid-morning on Wednesday as temperatures rise, according to the weather service. Highs in the eastern part of the state are expected to reach the mid to upper 40s, while central and western areas are predicted to see temperatures in the low 40s.

Berkshire County is expected to be the exception, with temperatures predicted to remain below freezing on Wednesday, according to the weather service. The state’s westernmost county is expected to see 1 to 3 inches of snow throughout the day.

The snow and rain is predicted to taper out overnight on Wednesday and cease entirely by the end of the morning on Thursday, according to the weather service. Eastern Massachusetts can expect temperatures in the low 40s, while the rest of the state can expect temperatures in the mid 30s.
