Mookie Betts isn’t in lineup vs. Red Sox on Friday, but here’s when he’ll be back

BOSTON — A superstar-studded Dodgers lineup won’t include Mookie Betts on Friday night at Fenway Park, but Betts will still get two chances to face his former team this weekend.

Betts is in Nashville dealing with a personal matter, manager Dave Roberts told reporters Friday, but is expected to return to the team for Saturday’s game. Boston and Los Angeles will play a nationally televised 7:15 p.m. game on FOX on Saturday and Betts is expected to arrive in Boston shortly before first pitch.

Betts visited Fenway Park as an opposing player two seasons ago when the Dodgers came to town for a three-game series from August 25-27, 2023. He had a big series at the plate, going 7-for-15 (.467) with a homer, two doubles and four RBIs as the Dodgers took two of three. Betts was on the injured list when the Red Sox visited Dodger Stadium last season.

Betts, who turns 33 in the fall, has had a down season for the Dodgers. Through 94 games, he has hit .238 with 11 homers, 14 doubles, 45 RBIs and a .679 OPS. For the first time since 2015 (not counting 2020, when there was no All-Star Game), Betts — who has exclusively played shortstop this season — was not an All-Star.
