SAVANNAH, Mo. — Residents of Savannah, Missouri, are outraged following the death of a K-9 officer named Horus, who died after being left in a hot car, KCTV reported.
David Vincent, chief of the Savannah Police Department, confirmed the K-9’s death to KCTV, stating that Horus died on June 20 due to complications from being left in a car after an overnight shift.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, but Horus’ death is currently considered an accident, according to the report. Vincent mentioned that the Savannah Police Department, which is currently down to three officers, considered Horus their fourth officer.
In response to the incident, the community has organized a candlelight vigil to honor Horus, KQ2 reported. The vigil is scheduled for June 30.
