ST. LOUIS — A St. Louis Sheriff’s deputy has died after suffering a medical emergency outside the department’s headquarters, First Alert 4 reported.
Sheriff Vernon Betts confirmed that Deputy Dennis Boyd, a 20-year veteran of the sheriff’s office, collapsed during his morning shift on Sept. 25.
“He got out of his car and fell dead,” Betts said.
Staff members performed CPR until paramedics arrived, but Boyd was later pronounced dead at the hospital. He leaves behind his wife, according to the report.
“Dennis Boyd is just a good, hardworking deputy. He’s the kind of guy that you would want on your team,” Betts added.
