The MLB All-Star Game starters were named Wednesday night, and the Red Sox don’t have a representative.
Alex Bregman was in the top two for American League third basemen, but he was ultimately beat out by Cleveland Guardians’ José Ramírez.
Had Bregman been named a starter, it would be unclear whether he’d be able to play in the Midsummer Classic as he continues to rehab from a quad injury he suffered in May.
Jarren Duran and Wilyer Abreu were also on the ballot for AL outfielders, but didn’t make the cut.
It’s possible Boston still has representatives, though. Garrett Crochet and Aroldis Chapman could be voted in as pitchers for the All-Star Game.
In the National League, New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor was voted in over former Red Sox star Mookie Betts.
The reserves and pitchers will be decided by way of the player ballot and selections by the commissioner’s office.
The rosters in their entirety will be announced on Sunday at 5 p.m.
