BUFFALO COUNTY, Wis. — A 74-year-old missing hunter was found Thursday morning in Buffalo County after an overnight search involving more than 125 first responders.
According to the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office, the hunter was reported missing in the 13,000-acre Tiffany Wildlife Area Nature Preserve in the town of Maxwell at about 7:35 p.m. Wednesday.
The man was supposed to have returned at about 5 p.m. that evening to a predesignated spot to meet up with his hunting partner but failed to do so.
A ground search with a K-9 and an aerial drone search were completed that night and Thursday morning.
Eventually, a fixed wing aircraft belonging to the Wisconsin State Patrol located the man at about 10:45 a.m. Thursday on railroad tracks in the Tiffany Wildlife Area.
An airboat belonging to the Department of Natural Resources was used by a Wisconsin DNR warden and a Wisconsin State Patrol lieutenant to reach the man.
The man was given aid before being transported by a fire department’s utility terrain vehicle and evaluated by Durand Ambulance.
He was reunited with his family after being cleared.
