NEW YORK CITY — The New York Mets announced the hiring of former New York City Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell in a newly created position as Senior Vice President of Security and Guest Experience on Thursday.
In this position, Sewell will oversee the safety and guest experience for the Mets. Her role falls under the leadership of Katie Haas, Executive Vice President of Ballpark Operations and Experience.
“Keechant’s expertise in public service, law and safety, as well as collaboration with the public, will allow us to take our Security and Guest Experience to the next level,” said Haas in a statement. “Keechant will help us to modernize our approach to safety and the guest experience at Citi Field, while also strengthening our relationships with the community and all agencies of law enforcement and emergency services.”
Ms. Sewel was appointed by Mayor Eric Adams to be the first woman to lead the NYPD in Dec. 2021. She served in that role for 18 months before resigning in June 2023 without providing a reason. Before that, the Queens native worked as chief of detectives in Nassau County on Long Island.
In a statement, Sewell says this role with the Mets will be her first role in the private sector.

As someone who grew up in Queens, this legendary organization is vital to local communities and so many across the world. I can’t wait to help be a part of building this world-class fan experience.”
