The UMass Memorial Medical Center in Marlborough was evacuated overnight Monday due to “operational challenges” that affected heat and water service inside the MetroWest hospital, according to multiple reports.
The evacuations began at 12:30 a.m. as ambulances transported patients to other hospitals in the UMass system, WCVB reported.
The Northborough Fire Department said it sent a fire engine to the hospital to “assist with the process of evacuating and transporting all Marlborough Hospital patients due to a major heating system failure.”
In a statement, the hospital acknowledged it was experiencing “operational challenges impacting heating and water supply.”
“The campus is currently on code black and has activated emergency operations. Operational teams are in the process of transferring inpatients to other UMass Memorial Health hospitals and are working to resolve the situation as quickly and safely as possible. Patient safety remains our top priority,” the hospital said in a statement, according to Boston 25 News.
