Men held without bail in Sunderland liquor store assault; hate crime alleged

GREENFIELD — A judge Monday ordered two men charged in July 16 beatings at a Sunderland liquor store held without bail following a dangerousness hearing.

The men — Warren Martinez, 30, of Northampton, and Thomas Patnode, 24, of Greenfield — accused of assaulting a clerk and another individual after the employee refused to serve them alcohol, according to a news release from the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office.

As a result of the attack, the employee suffered significant injuries, authorities said.
