It’s primary election day in Massachusetts, and voters across the state will be making choices in a host of local and statewide races.

There are races for the state Legislature and a Republican primary for U.S. Senate on the ballot this Tuesday, Sept. 3.
Voters also will cast their ballots in primary contests for the Massachusetts Governor’s Council, an obscure body that nonetheless plays an important role in state government.

The winner of the three-way contest will face incumbent Democratic U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, of Cambridge, in this November’s general election.
