Mass. weather: Snow warning issued for Friday

Another round of snow is set for much of the state on Friday, with most parts of Massachusetts expected to see significant accumulation, according to the National Weather Service.

High temperatures will reach the low to mid 20s across the state, with clouds increasing through the afternoon. As the sun goes down, temps will drop to the teens in Western and Central Massachusetts and the low 20s in Boston and Cape Cod & the Islands.

Snow should begin to fall in Western Massachusetts in late afternoon. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the area from 4 p.m. Friday to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Worcester County will start getting snow about 10 p.m. Midnight will see it start coming down in Boston and coastal areas. Calm winds should make for a gentle snowfall through the night.

Western Massachusetts could see 3 to 7 inches of new accumulation, while Central Massachusetts and Cape Cod & the Islands could get closer 1 to 3 inches. The forecast calls for about 1 inch in Boston.

Snow will peter out early Saturday morning and should be wrapped up by 7 a.m. in Western Massachusetts. Skies will clear throughout the day, with sunshine and temperatures reaching the low 30s in some places.

The National Weather Service expects the sunny weather to continue into Sunday, with mild conditions throughout the day until a band of freezing rain hits the state overnight.
