The National Weather Service warned of treacherous commute in parts of Massachusetts.
Snow fell overnight and temperatures near freezing may produce icy spots on roads. In a message on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Wednesday morning, the National Weather Service’s Norton, Mass., office wrote that this would be especially true where “light freezing drizzle” has occurred in the interior of the state.
The most dangerous areas include Worcester, Pittsfield, Springfield, Greenfield, Northampton, as well as everything from the Interstate-91 corridor and points west. A large swath of the central portion of the state, encompassing Gardner and Leominster in the north down through all of Worcester County in the south is also covered with ice, according to the National Weather Service.
This includes portions of the Massachusetts Turnpike.
The National Weather Service had this advice: “Allow extra travel time!”
Meanwhile, schools across the state have issued closure or delay notifications on Wednesday morning.
