Mass. weather: Ice, snow moving in over weekend

Massachusetts will enjoy sunny, seasonably warm weather on Thursday before snowy conditions move in over the weekend.

The National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement for most of the state for Thursday, warning that black ice could be an issue during the morning commute. That is expected to clear up before noon, as temperatures rise above freezing.

Highs will settle in the high 30s to low 40s across the state, with calm winds and plenty of sun. Boston and Worcester will hit 38 degrees in the afternoon, while Springfield will get up to 40 degrees and Cape Cod & the Islands will reach 37 degrees. Temperatures will drop to the mid 20s overnight in most areas.

Snow is in the forecast through the weekend, beginning on Friday night. The National Weather Service predicts 1 to 3 inches of accumulation in Boston, 2 to 4 inches in Central Massachusetts and 1 to 3 inches in Western Massachusetts.

Snow showers are expected to continue sporadically on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
