Mass. weather: Frost and cool temperatures are coming this week

Massachusetts is set to experience a significant cool down with temperatures dropping into the 30s and potential frost by Thursday night, while coastal areas will see gusty winds from Hurricane Humberto’s distant influence.

A strong high-pressure system will bring dry, cool air to Massachusetts, causing temperatures to fall well below normal through midweek. Temperatures will reach the upper 70s today, potentially touching 80 degrees, before a backdoor cold front pushes through, dropping coastal temperatures into the 60s on Tuesday afternoon. By Wednesday and Thursday, daytime highs will struggle to reach normal levels, with overnight lows potentially dipping into the 30s.

Western and Central Massachusetts, including areas around Springfield, can expect clear skies and minimal precipitation. The coolest temperatures will likely occur Thursday night, with patchy frost possible in typically colder areas, especially in rural and elevated locations. Residents should protect sensitive plants and prepare for chilly overnight conditions.
