Mass. weather: Freezing rain, icy conditions ahead

Massachusetts residents will be reaching for their ice scrapers over the next couple days.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for most of the state, as freezing rain could create dangerous conditions Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Ice accumulation between 0.1 and 0.2 inches is possible in Central and Western Massachusetts, while Boston and the eastern part of the state will get a light glaze of ice.

Precipitation could begin in Western Massachusetts as early as 6 p.m., moving east and reaching Boston by 9 p.m. The winter weather advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Tuesday to 10 a.m. Wednesday for Berkshire County, Franklin County, Hampshire County, Hampden County, Worcester County, Middlesex County, Essex County, Norfolk County and northern Bristol County.

Temperatures are expected to break above freezing Tuesday afternoon, with highs of 34 degrees in Boston, 32 in Worcester, 34 in Springfield, 36 in Pittsfield and 37 on Cape Cod & the Islands. Lows will dip into the high 20s and low 30s overnight.

Wednesday could bring more rain, but with temperatures expected in the mid to upper 30s throughout the day, no freezing rain is forecast.
