Mass. weather: Black ice plagues morning commute across state

Freezing rain may have stopped falling in Massachusetts, but black ice remains a threat on Thursday morning.

The National Weather Service issued a Special Weather Statement for the entire state, advising drivers and pedestrians to use caution, as patches of black ice could have formed overnight.

Conditions should improve by 9 a.m., with sunny skies and high temperatures reaching the 40s in much of the state. Boston and Worcester will hit 43 degrees this afternoon, Springfield will get up to 44 degrees, Cape Cod & the Islands will see temperatures up to 41 degrees, and Pittsfield will top out at 38 degrees.

Temperatures will drop below freezing on Thursday night, bringing a chance of patchy fog or freezing fog in some areas, according to the National Weather Service.

Friday will see highs in the upper 40s across the state, with clouds forming throughout the day and rain showers expected in the evening. Rain will continue through the weekend, with heavier precipitation forecast for Saturday and showers on Sunday.
