Two Massachusetts teens have been charged in connection with a brawl that broke out at a Milford-East Springfield American Legion baseball game Monday night, Milford police announced Wednesday evening.
Holyoke resident Eliezer Rosario Lebron, 19, is facing an assault and battery charge in connection with the fight, while an unnamed 17-year-old Milford boy is facing charges of assault, disturbing the peace and affray, Milford police said in a press release. Investigators identified the two teens as being involved in the July 21 brawl at Fino Field after reviewing a variety of recordings of the game.
When officers responded to the fight around 9:05 p.m., they found people still arguing on the field even though the brawl had already been broken up, police said. Organizers ultimately suspended the game with plans to continue it at a later date following the violent outburst.
The fight began during the bottom of the fourth inning amid a tied 1-1 game. Bases were loaded for the East Springfield team, which threatened to take a commanding lead.
In a video posted to Milford TV’s YouTube page, someone in the crowd can be heard hurling expletives. Moments later, the home plate umpire turns to the stands and calls timeout.
Milford TV Executive Director Timothy Caouette narrated the fight as it happened, describing it as “absolute mayhem near the third base dugout.” The video shows at least one person throwing a punch.
“It was Milford players in the crowd starting to get into it with the East Springfield team,” Caouette said during the broadcast. The violence soon spread among the fans, which sparked a heated argument between some of the opposing coaches.
