Mass. native scoring in front of home crowd is something Bruins defenseman dreamed of

BOSTON — Jordan Harris made the most of his playing time on Monday.

The Bruins defenseman, filling in for the injured Hampus Lindholm, scored his first goal with the organization in Boston’s 4-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

It was a little extra special for Harris, who’s a Haverhill native.

“It’s something I dreamed about,” Harris said after the game. “It’s something I’ve seen a thousand times on TV. Really special, especially able to do it here at home.”

“It’s hard to kind of describe — the feeling of being on the ice and just the loudness of the building and excitement and everything,“ he later added. ”There’s not really another place like it. So it’s a lot better being on this side of it than being an opponent. It’s a lot better playing here.“

Harris leaped into the boards as fans banged against the glass and cheers filled TD Garden.

“I was just trying to slow down my momentum,” Harris said of the celebration. “I came in too hot.”

The Bruins expect Lindholm, who suffered a lower-body injury in Boston’s home opener, to travel with the team for their upcoming road trip. Whether he plays is unknown, but Harris has left an impression on his coach during his playing time.

“He had a really good game last game and today was solid again,” Marco Sturm said. “So, I can’t really say anything bad about him. He works, does his job.”
