Mass. mom who lost home in Christmas Day fire that killed 2 dogs needs help

A mother from Orange needs getting a fresh start after she lost her home in three-alarm fire on Christmas Day that claimed the life of two dogs.

“The worst thing that could happen especially on Christmas,” a GoFundMe organized for Krystal Emerson reads. “She lost everything for her, her baby, her boyfriend, and their two dogs.”

The fire broke out at 15 Jones St. just after 4 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 25, according to Orange Fire Rescue and EMS on Facebook. When they arrived, crews learned that everyone had made it out of the building safely, but that several dogs were still trapped inside.

Two dogs were rescued while two other dogs died, according to fire officials. One resident was brought to Athol Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while a firefighter was treated for injuries onsite.

The fire made its way up all three floors of the building and into the attic, drawing a third alarm.

Firefighters eventually put out the flames, but the home sustained significant damage. The building was deemed uninhabitable as a result, according to Orange Fire Rescue and EMS.

“I just want to help my best friend get a new place, and clothes and diapers for her and her family,” Taia Cormier wrote on the GoFundMe page.

The campaign is looking to raise $10,000. People can donate by clicking here.

Meanwhile, the cause of the fire is under investigation Orange Fire Rescue and EMS and the Department of Fire Services Fire Investigation Unit.
