Mass. man killed in rollover crash wasn’t wearing seat belt, police say

A 59-year-old man killed in a rollover crash in Boston wasn’t wearing a seat belt, Massachusetts State Police said.

Robert Smith, of Cambridge, was driving a 2015 Jeep Compass northbound on Route 93, shortly after midnight on Saturday. As the Jeep was approaching Exit 17, Smith lost control of the Jeep, crashed into a wall on the western edge of road and rolled over, police said.

Smith, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt, was the only person in the Jeep, police said. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by Troop H of the Massachusetts State Police, the State Police Detective Unit for Suffolk County, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section.
