Mass. man faces assault charges after domestic incident, break-in

A Maynard man is facing a slew of charges including assault in connection with a Sunday night break-in and “domestic incident.”

William Rogers Buster, 25, has been charged with two counts of assault and battery on a family or household member, according to court records. He’s also facing one count each of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a dangerous weapon, breaking and entering into a building at night to commit a felony, malicious damage to a motor vehicle, malicious destruction of property, disorderly conduct and threatening to commit a crime.

On May 18 around 9:45 p.m., Maynard police responded to an apartment on Dawn Road for reports that someone was breaking into an apartment and that a fight was going on inside the apartment, the police department said in a press release. At the scene, the reporting party — who knew Buster personally — told officers that he’d broken into the apartment and damaged multiple items in the home.

The reporting party also accused Buster of breaking their car’s windshield with a vacuum, police said. He then fled the scene.

Officers began searching for Buster in the area, and the Maynard Police Drone Unit was called in to assist, police said. While operating the drone, officers located a thermal image of something next to the fence outside the apartment complex.

Officers approached the area next to the fence and soon located Buster, police said. They arrested him without incident.

Officers then learned that Buster had ingested a large amount of non-lethal medication, police said. He was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation out of an abundance of caution.

Buster was arraigned in Concord District Court on Monday and ordered held pending a dangerousness hearing on Friday, according to court records. His lawyer did not respond to a request for comment Monday evening.
